چکیده

This research was partially supported by research grants to each of the authors from the National Science Foundation We study two families of excitable cellular automata known as the Greenberg–Hastings model and the cyclic cellular automaton. Each family consists of local deterministic oscillating lattice dynamics, with parallel discrete-time updating, parametrized by the range of interaction, l shape of its neighbor set, threshold for contact updating, and number of possible states per site. These models are mathematically tractable prototypes for the spatially distributed periodic wave activity of so-called excitable media observed in diverse disciplines of experimental science.

Computational Aspects of Modeling Excitable Media Using Cellular Automata

The study of excitable media is important in understanding the behavior of complex systems including mold growth, star formation, and cardiac tissue contraction. In this paper we discuss some computational aspects of modeling excitable media using multi-state cellular automata. In particular, we discuss implementation issues, algorithm development and visualization on the AGILA High Performance...

Quantifying Self-Organization in Cyclic Cellular Automata

Cyclic cellular automata (CCA) are models of excitable media. Started from random initial conditions, they produce several different kinds of spatial structure, depending on their control parameters. We introduce new tools from information theory that let us calculate the dynamical information content of spatial random processes. This complexity measure allows us to quantitatively determine the...

Asynchronous Cellular Automata and Brownian Motion

This paper deals with some very simple interacting particle systems, elementary cellular automata, in the fully asyn-chronous dynamics: at each time step, a cell is randomly picked, and updated. When the initial configuration is simple, we describe the asymptotic behavior of the random walks performed by the borders of the black/white regions. Following a classification introduced by Fatès et a...

Spatial Networks of Hybrid I/O Automata for Modeling Excitable Tissue

We propose a new biological framework, spatial networks of hybrid input/output automata (SNHIOA), for the efficient modeling and simulation of excitable-cell tissue. Within this framework, we view an excitable tissue as a network of interacting cells disposed according to a 2D spatial lattice, with the electrical behavior of a single cell modeled as a hybrid input/ouput automaton. To capture th...

Novel Defect Terminolgy Beside Evaluation And Design Fault Tolerant Logic Gates In Quantum-Dot Cellular Automata

Quantum dot Cellular Automata (QCA) is one of the important nano-level technologies for implementation of both combinational and sequential systems. QCA have the potential to achieve low power dissipation and operate high speed at THZ frequencies. However large probability of occurrence fabrication defects in QCA, is a fundamental challenge to use this emerging technology. Because of these vari...
